Parcels of cocaine found in ocean baths and on NSW beaches

Parcels believed to contain cocaine have been found washed up on beaches, at ocean baths and in a barrel in the sea.
At least seven packages thought to contain the illegal drug have been discovered between Sydney and Newcastle over the last week.

NSW Police are investigating, saying 124kg of cocaine has been found.

The first package was found about 8pm on Friday at Magenta, on the coastal side of Tuggerah Lake on the NSW Central Coast.

Police say they seized 39 sealed packages inside, suspected to be around 39kg of cocaine.

 
On Christmas Eve beachgoers stumbled upon seven wrapped packages at beaches on the Central Coast, at Lake Macquarie, Avoca and in Manly in Sydney
 

The packages, which were believed to contain a further 7kg of cocaine, were handed to police.

A fisherman also found a blue barrel containing 39 individually wrapped 1kg bricks of cocaine on Boxing Day at Barrenjoey Headland off the Northern Beaches of Sydney on Boxing Day.
Later that day another suspicious package containing 39 individually sealed packages was found at ocean baths in Newcastle, NSW.

NSW Police is forensically examining the parcels, with State Crime Command investigating.

Director of State Crime Command, Detective Chief Superintendent Jason Weinstein, thanked people for reporting their finds.

 
“We thank those who have heeded the warning to report any suspicious packages to police as we get to the bottom of this matter and we remind people that being in possession of a prohibited drug is a criminal offence,” Weinstein said.
“Detectives and specialist police are currently combing beaches and coastlines for any outstanding packages and working behind the scenes to make sure we find and hold accountable those responsible.”
Detectives will work with local police, PolAir and Marine Area Command, as well as the Australian Border Force and Surf Life Saving NSW, to seize any outstanding packages.
